The TIA-5053-A Mounting System Classification standard underwent a revision on April 19, 2023, with critical updates. The 5053 update committee’s primary focus was to improve the user experience by reorganizing and reformatting the standard. The committee identified four distinct user scenarios and tailored the standard to meet each one’s requirements while keeping the core principles of classification ratings unchanged. Some high-level changes are listed below:
• Addition of Table 2-1: serves as a quick reference for the definition of the classification identification structure
• Section 2.3: Clarifis instances where classification is not allowed, including severely unbalanced loading considerations
• Section 4.0: Adds step-by-step directions for site-specific applications
• Annex Update: now outlines the process for mount classification and provides site specific location and loading scenarios to aid in the mount selection process
